This very same model has a MSRP of $499 but for a limited time you can buy it here at Amazon for only $749.

Why is Amazon selling this unit for $749 when it averages $450-$499 elsewhere? Im disappointed that Amazon participates in what is basically price scalping because the demand just happens to be great.

Overall Panasonic makes great electronics but they’ve cut this player in half with features. It lacks many things that other HD players selling for 3 times less price have including ethernet/online accessibility, internal audio decoding (you will need an external audio/video receiver in order to take full advantage of the quality) and a few beefs here and there worth less mention.

The problem I’ve stumbled up is that no Blu-Ray standalone player will play all features of upcoming discs. I’m not sure why I needed to pay the premium at all when I’m getting an incomplete product.

For example, a Toshiba HD-A35 or A30 HD players sell here on Amazon for $[...] and have absolutely every imaginable feature with stellar sound and video quality.

After research, I found out what the problem with Blu-Ray is:

Fortunately Amazon is great and I managed to return this Panasonic player as I will be waiting for a Profile 2.0 player that has all features. In the meantime I’ll be enjoying HD on Toshiba players.

I have both types and I like this one better. It fills the screen on my 50″ Pany more often than the Tosh. Stunning quality.

Kind of ridiculous that they raised the price by $300 once Toshiba decided to throw in the towel on the HD-DVD format. I guess it’s true what they say about monopolies (although I know that this doesn’t fit the technical definition). But it’s disturbing, now that the format wars are won, retailers are extorting the public, by raising the price from about about $450 to over $700. I was about to buy one of these, but now it looks like I’ll have to wait awhile.
