at this price glitches and hiccups are unforgiveable. after discovering this player is obsolete (not 1.2 or 2.0 compliant) i went HD DVD. same quality, half the price. buying blu-ray makes no sense when you can get an hd-a30 for 230 with 10 movies.

I received this piece of junk - it never worked - the sound skips, the picture freezes - it is criminal that Samsung is permitted to sell a piece of junk like this.

After buying & testing out this player, I came to a conclusion that the Blu-Ray format is still "Broken" and needs repair ASAP. Many of my Blu-Ray movies would not play and the load times on other that do play took way too long, some even froze. I have the most up-to-date firmware, so that is not the problem. My 2 friends also have the same player with similar problems.

I do give a little credit to Samsung for trying but it really is not their falt in this matter.
Right now the better choice is the HD DVD player which has a brighter future due to it's finished specs & complete future compatability.

Unless the BDA assosiation can fix Blu-Ray, they are going to have many customer complaints.

So, I'll be selling this player on eBay and keeping my HD-A35 HD DVD player which only costs me $50 more then this Samsung BD player.

I sent this product back prior to opening. I'm putting in an entire home theater and when I started reading other reviews of this product, the reviews were so negitive that I decided that I didn't want to hope that I got one that might work. When I hook up all the equipment, I want to sit down and watch High def, not wait around for the replacement.

I received my BD-P1400 on my day off so I was able to set it up and stick in a SD movie within a few minutes. My first thought. Hmmm, the upconverting didn't look as good as my Toshiba D-VR600 ( both using Monster 1000 HDMI cables).Very surprising! Well I run to block buster to rent Live Free Or Die Hard. Well it wouldn't load up the disk.. @#$%!! I had read somewhere else that the firmware had to be upgraded. This is a PITA. I plug in my ethernet cable to the back of the player and start the DL. While I'm waiting I decide to watch satellite TV, I check on it in about 20 minutes and the player has reverted to the blue Samsung screen. I go back through the menu options and I still have the same FW version.. So I go the the process a second time.. samething!! Come to find out after the FW download is complete you have just a few seconds ( I think three) to confirm the DL or it cancels it self. You have to sit there and watch your TV screen and make sure you don't miss the end of the DL. After that it take about 15 minutes to process the DL. This part you can snooze through.

After a hour and a half of two unsuccessful DL and one good one the players still didn't play Die Hard! You have to DL and even newer FW.

SO after downloading two firmware version. It finally played Die Hard but the video jittered about 4 times through the movie. I'll give it another shot with a different movie but if it does the samething I'm going to tie a rope around it and see if it does a better job of anchoring my boat than it does playing movies..

I hade to give this thing one star because the is no zero or negitive star/s

UPDATE 11/30/08: the display is very dimm even in it's brightest setting
